Insurance

Through Alma, I am credentialled to accept Aetna, Cigna, and Otptum/United health plans. I also accept Optum EAP. If you have a different insurance provider I am happy to provide you with superbills so that you can seek reimbursement for out-of-network benefits through your plan. You are also welcome to use your HSA/FSA account to pay for sessions.

When using your insurance to cover the cost of therapy:

  • Billing insurance requires me to diagnose all clients with a billable mental health disorder to receive coverage.

  • I believe therapy should focus on building your resilience and healing, not simply resolving a disorder. Clients I work with do not always meet the criteria for a billable diagnosis.

  • Billing insurance companies requires me to disclose your identified diagnosis, and that diagnosis will also be included in your medical record.

Understanding your coverage can be confusing. If you have questions or concerns, or need help navigating your plan, please reach out to me! You can also check out this blog post here.

Good Faith Estimates

If you are choosing to self-pay for therapy, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost

Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

• You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

• Make sure your healthcare provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

• If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

• Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
